Ionic Liquids are molten (liquid) salts with a very low melting point (many are liquids at room temperature). The following paper looks at the potential of ionic liquids for use in gas separation and gas storage by absorption.
Many ionic liquids show a high solubility for carbon dioxide and therefore are promising substances for gas separation processes in which, for example, CO2 needs to be separated from a mixture (e.g. reduction of CO2 concentration in natural gas).
The research is carried out on a Rubotherm gravimetric sorption analyser which allows gravimetric sorption measurements to be carried out at high pressures than conventional instruments - thus imitating technical processes more accurately.
