Surface Metrology Solutions for Materials Characterisation
Merrow Scientific are proud to have become the UK representative for Altimet supplying their range of surface measurement systems for a wide range of materials characterisation applications.
Altimet have been at the cutting edge of non-contact surface metrology for nearly 20 years. Based on the coast of lake Geneva Altimet originally developing their systems to meet the demands of the Swiss luxury watch market.
While their core business is based on techniques for the micromechanical, material research, paper and printing, microelectronics and semiconductors, and nanotechnologies industries their real strength is the ability to measure surface characteristics of hard to measure niche applications. Surfaces/materials analysed include skin, hair, corroded metals, degraded polymers, watch parts, gels, materials for forensic science, residuals on filter materials, fracture faces, and a wide range of others.
The instruments are available in a wide range of versions including laboratory systems and portable systems that can either be used on-line or in the field. These 3D high resolution profilometers have full modularity so can be used with the following sensors:
- Confocal chromatic (including the world's first line chromatic sensor in a profilometer maximising speed and accuracy of measurement)
- Interferometric
- Mechanical stylus
- CCD camera
- Laser etc
A wide range of the above are available to suit the application and resolution required. Coupled with the PheNix electronics and software to maximise programming and analysis of measurements.
Due to our large range of sensors and PheNix systems we believe we can measure almost all types of surface.
Measurements are insensitive to colour and surface optical properties including coloured, glossy, matt and heterogeneous surfaces (even measuring through glass). Large range of surface dynamics, large angle, large amplitudes, small or large area (no stitching of images). anisotropic textures, sampling size can be adjusted to the surface. Also measuring complex materials with semi transparent media, transparent layers, multi layered and wet surfaces.
