Altimet (represented in the UK and Ireland by Merrow Scientific)
have recently launched the Altisurf 50 in the UK. This is a ground breaking instrument for surface metrology as it is portable - meaning users can take the instrument to a point of interest to measure surface characteristics or changes, for example:
- Measuring corrosion occurring on structures (rather than having to take samples for laboratory analysis)
- Quantifying degradation of museum or art gallery pieces and the effect of cleaning solvents
- Assessing the wear on components on racing cars to ensure optimum performance and meeting of standards
- Locating on a production line for assessment of production quality
The instrument can be configured to use a non-contact confocal chromatic or interferometric optical sensor to optimise specifications for unique applications. This allows a vertical resolution of up to 5nm to be measured.
Coupled with our powerful PheNIX technology and software a wide range of surfaces and characteristics can be analysed.
The unit can also be coupled with a special stand to allow it to be used at every type of angle and direction, for example it can be used upside down to analyse a component on the underside of a car.
